The wedding box set
I reckon one of the hardest parts about planning a wedding is deciding on The Theme for the table names at the reception.
Everyone wants to demonstrate what a cool couple they are, whether that’s showing off their globe-trotting adventures or displaying their über cool taste in music.
For my own wedding, my wife and I decided that the theme would be our favourite TV series, as there’s nothing we like better after a hard day than a bit of (ahem) Netflix and chill.
My plan was to replace the characters in each scene with the happy couple, so I sketched out how I thought it should look. I don’t know if you’ve ever drawn a loved one, but it’s an absolute minefield, so I wanted to get this bit spot on.
Once I’d got sign-off from the boss, I worked up the concept to a finished state. Rather than bore you with reams of making-of text, here’s a little video I put together to show the process.
And after all that, this is what we ended up with.
That was just the beginning. I now had to do it all over again. Seven times.
This meant a lot of 5am starts and late nights slaving over a hot Mac. By the end of it, I was the spitting image of the character above.
It was all worth it in the end though. The guests loved them, and I even picked up some illustration work off the back of it.
