J’adore La Vie
La Vie En Bleu (‘Life in Blue’) is the Bugatti Owners’ Club’s annual celebration of all things Gallic, held at their Prescott Speed Hill Climb headquarters.
If your tastes verge more towards 21st century opulence, you were also well catered for with a selection of millionaires’ playthings including the new Bugatti Sharon.
This year, for the first time, the event incorporated La Vita Rossa (‘The Red Life’) – which meant lots and lots of gorgeous Italian metal.
There’s also a full racing calendar, with all manner of things bladdering up the hill and then being fettled on to coax out a few more bhp and precious microseconds.
My favourite car at the event – in fact, probably my favourite car in all the world – was/is the Fiat S76, known as The Beast Of Turin, unofficial holder of the land speed record in 1911.
It has a 28-litre engine, spews flames (like, lots of flames) out of its exhaust pipes and sounds like a very pissed off demon.
It is truly, magically, epically wonderful and I’m a little bit obsessed with it.
Until next year then, au revoir mon amis.
