Big bubbles, no troubles
Psychedelic rockers The Chinese Burn Society asked me to create the artwork for what was to be their debut single, ‘Bubblegum EP’.
I met up with the band to get an understanding of what they were looking for, and listened to the demos of the EP’s four tracks on repeat until I probably knew them better than the band.
Fully Bubblegummed-up, I scribbled down a few rough ideas for the sleeve.
The band also needed logo that represented their unique and quirky character. To me, the name conjured up images of some kind of secret Victorian gentleman’s establishment, so a few of the concepts reflected that idea.
Working from my initial sketches, I mocked up four sleeve concepts that were stylistically very different, yet still encapsulated the (to my ears) infectious glam rock stomp of the lead track, ‘Bubblegum’.
With the chosen creative route in the bag, I created a complementary design for the body of the CD.
Finally, I wrote the press release for the launch of the single, and produced some posters for the band’s gigs.
